Being a content creator is HARRRDD and that’s totally unrelated to the content of this email. I just spent the last 30 minutes recording a voiceover for a video I just posted and the struggle to sync the voiceover with the pace of the video stressed me out. Pardon my manners, hello👋🏾 and how are you doing? Did you drink lots of water last week and most importantly, did you wear sunscreen? Be honest🌝.
First, some updates for you. Remember I said I was making some changes to my routine with hopes to improve my life in general? Well, here’s how things went:
Being in bed at 10 PM - Achieved this from Sunday to Thursday night
No phone in bed rule - Achieved this from Sunday to Thursday night
10 minutes of workout twice a week - Achieved this, went to the gym twice
Eating healthier - Achieved this, I was more conscious of what I ate
Read a book in bed - Achieved this and even finished a book in three nights
🙅🏽♀️ Update on No-spend March
Recall that I said I wasn’t spending money on wants in the month of March? In the spirit of accountability, let me also share how that’s going. I have been able to stick to it to a large extent. On Wednesday which was International Women’s Day, I had a very difficult time at work and needed to come up for air - I needed time to be with myself to process my thoughts. And food - comfort food does that for me🥺. So I went on a solo date which I shared on my Instagram stories. I know some of you are on this challenge with me which I think is amazing, so full disclosure - I didn’t pay for the solo date with my money. My husband did. And honestly even if he didn’t, I would have paid for it myself despite it being my no-spend month because I NEEDED IT. It wasn’t a want sis, I needed to have a break😭.
So I am still on my no-spend streak and the whole idea is not to deprive myself of the things I need but to control my wants. And I know what my wants are - it’s 1 AM shopping on ASOS, it’s buying a makeup product just because I saw amazing reviews on Tiktok, it’s buying one more shirt that I don’t have wardrobe space for on PLT etc. The idea is to control spending on things like these. The only “want” I’ve spent on this month is a fresh nail set 💅🏽, sis, we can’t have my nails looking unkempt 😭. If you’re doing the no-spend challenge with me, please reply and let me know how it’s going on your end.
💭 What’s on my mind
I think I’m a terrible friend. No, scratch that, sometimes I think I’m bad at friendships. It’s not like I don’t have friends, I do but I don’t think I have friends who would go the extra mile for me and I think it’s a ME and not a Them-problem. I admire ladies who have a best friend or a close circle of besties, it’s amazing I tell you! You mean you just have people who will go through thick and thin for you, celebrate your every milestone, pray for and cheer you on? Must be nice.
I have some kind-hearted persons in my corner but I don’t think they would go through lengths for me but then maybe I’m wrong. And as I reflect on this, perhaps I haven’t been the most dependable friend. You know how we all say “life happens”, I’m realising life has happened a lot of times in my friendships. And just when I was beginning to have a tight bond with one of my dearest friends in Nigeria, I had to relocate to the UK for my masters. I did my best to maintain that friendship but I guess it wasn’t enough.
After studies I moved back to Nigeria and tried to rekindle the friendship but distance doesn’t make the heart grow fonder. And now I’m back to the UK with most of my friends scattered all across the world - from Canada, to America, to Nigeria etc. Distance has robbed me of something - the opportunity to create lasting bonds. And living in the U.K. + working from home doesn’t give me the opportunity to make new friends. If you have a bestie or clique of friends you can easily reach, you’re blessed.
