Hiiii, did you miss me last week? Because I sure did 🤗. I'm sorry I didn't write to you on Sunday, it escaped my mind while I was out with my friend in London. And that's why today I'm writing this email on a Saturday morning, and the time is precisely 8:34 am. I am writing this now so I don't forget to do so tomorrow as I will have travelled out of the UK and been somewhere chilling.
✨ Random: One of the books I'm reading advises to chew your food at least 15 times per bite. The idea is to get you to eat consciously and savour the food slowly. So, I've been counting while I chew, which is a challenge as there's the risk of choking on my food.
My hormones were all over the place last week. I explained in detail in this video how my PCOS symptoms have worsened. I need a hormone test to understand what's going on with my endocrine system and to know what hormones are imbalanced. I started looking for where I could get this test done aside from going to my GP because we know how long that process can take (*insert bombastic sideeye*). I found a platform that offers home-based hormone and fertility tests with the results in a few days, but the fee made me pause. It'll cost about £180. I don't think it's too much to pay, but I didn't have a budget for it, so I couldn't proceed with the order.
👩🏽💻 What I worked on this week
First off, my routine was out of balance. I barely got into bed at 10 pm on most days, and I also found myself eating late at night and struggling to read. But I've learned over time to be kind and patient with myself in times like these. Some weeks are great, while others are not.
I wanted to share this here. So last week, I interviewed someone for a role my company wants to fill. I asked the candidate a question, but her answer didn't clearly express her thought process. So guess what she did after the interview? She sent an email acknowledging that she knew she didn't adequately answer the question and then fully fleshed out her answer to that question in the email.
That was a proactive stance to take. I was impressed that she did that. You can try this if you're in a job interview season.
🤔 What's on my mind
I went to the cinema last week and watched the movie AIR, which is based on NIKE's humble beginning and how they worked hard to sign Michael Jordan for the popular Air Jordans sneakers. But what intrigued me was that his mother insisted that Michael Jordan be paid a percentage from every sale of the Air Jordans sneakers anywhere in the world. This was difficult for NIKE to agree to, given that they were also taking a gamble with Michael Jordan, who had only started his career at 21. But she insisted and agreed to her terms. And guess what? The Air Jordans sneakers have gone on to bring over 4 Billion Dollars in sales every year! 🤯
Imagine if his mum didn't insist for a share in sales? Also, Michael Jordan makes about 400 million dollars PASSIVELY from this deal. I said PASSIVELY! That was the bit that blew my mind once more 🤯. With or without working ever again, he is good for life. There are levels to this thing. Key takeaways from the movie were:
Having the right persons to mentor or point you in the right direction can save you costly mistakes.
It's good to not just think of now but of the future and how present-day decisions could affect or impact your outcomes later.
Ownership is one of the pathways to wealth. If you can't fully own a business, owning a small part of a business - aka investing in stocks is one of the pathways to wealth.
Speaking of investing, I found this platform that provides bite-sized financial education for women - from investing in the stock market to managing your accounts to starting a side hustle to salary negotiations, pensions, property, etc. The list is long! 😂
You get access to all this right in their beautiful app, and the best part is that because of a recent partnership, they're giving access to the platform free for one year! So don't run; fly now and download the app. Also, you get rewards for completing the bite-sized courses. Use my referral code LIOQZ9BNZR to get 500 avocados🥑 to spend on rewards when you sign up.
This recommendation isn't sponsored; I found the app helpful and beautifully designed. And I loveeeeet!😁
