Hi ya! 🙋🏽♀️
It’s that time of the week again, and I’ve been looking forward to writing this email. And I think it’s because I am not active on Instagram at the moment (where I share daily), so this is my main outlet for communicating. Before we jump in, I want to shout out to all new subscribers to this dispatch email; thanks for subscribing and finding my emails interesting ♥️.
To tell you just how much I was looking forward to writing this email, I actually created an outline so I don’t forget anything 😁.
Now, let’s take it one after the other:
👩🏽💻 What I worked on this week
I finally worked on the CP Community’s website. After going back and forth with the web developer without getting the picture I had in mind, I decided to build the website myself. I used a no-code platform called Leadpages and created the website from scratch, and I am so proud of myself! A few website pages are still in the works, but please check out the website and let me know what you think in the comments 🙏🏾.
I also visited the dentist this week. I noticed a stain on my lower incisors and needed to have it checked. Ended up doing a routine check + teeth scaling and polishing. My dentist said the stain was normal as I drank tea A LOT, and it was nothing to worry about. It was also my first time getting a teeth x-ray. Have you ever had one? A device was placed in between my teeth, and I had to bite on it then a radiograph image was taken. I had the x-ray done to check if I had any internal tooth decay that wasn’t visible yet, but it was all clear. My teeth are perfectly healthy, and the stain is gone 😁. If you haven’t visited a dentist this year, I strongly encourage you to do so.
I finally took the leap and bought a Sony Camera for youtube. I’ve been using my phone to shoot and edit videos since 2019 till now, and I’ve been having this nudge that it’s time for an upgrade. And my bank account felt it. Also, lemme just say this here, cameras and everything that comes with it is expensive 😭. I just realised that I also need to buy a camera lens, camera bag, memory card, tripod stand and a microphone. How did I get here??
💡What I’m learning
I learned to cook Szechuan-style Kung Pao at the Jamie Oliver Cookery School. Hubby and I decided to do something different for date night. We went up to London yesterday and had an AMAZING time learning, cooking and eating. Kung Pao is a stir-fried Chinese dish made with cubes of chicken, peanuts, vegetables, and chilli peppers. I recorded our entire experience at the cookery school to share with you, and you can watch it here. If you are looking for a fun date idea or something to do with a friend, I HIGHLY recommend it. We paid £49 each for the class, which included a glass of drink on arrival + you eat the meal you prepared.
Lessons from the class:
i. Hoisin sauce should not be cooked on heat. Before the class, I had made stir-fry dishes that always burned and stuck to the pan. Apparently, I had been doing it wrong. Hoisin sauce should be added to your stir-fry after you’ve turned off the heat.
ii. When cutting vegetables like bell peppers or tomatoes, cut from the inside and not on the outer smooth part. Doing this makes your knife go blunt quickly.
iii. I also learnt how to cook fragranced jasmine rice and make it fluffy, aka the rice Ghanaians use for their Jollof *insert eye roll*. (If you’re Nigerian reading this, Ghanaian rice will humble you, stuff gets soggy easily, but I’m glad I have seen the light now).
🤔 What’s on my mind
There are a couple of things on my mind, so we’ll take them one after the other. First, I trended on Twitter for saying I never had a C in university and graduated with a first class of 4.92/5.0. And, of course, this tweet garnered a lot of comments; from the doubting ones to the encouraging ones and the absolutely crazy ones 😂. Some people did not believe it and wanted proof, I almost shared screenshots of my transcript, but then I stopped myself. I have nothing to prove. If I am great at anything, it’s academics, and I don’t need to prove that.
The second thing is that you all should please help me beg the Nigerian High Commission in London to release my passport 🙏🏾 😭. I applied for my passport renewal on the 15th of August, it’s exactly two months, and I have yet to receive my new passport. Processing time takes three weeks on average. I don’t know why mine has taken this long. Please, if you know anyone at the Embassy, could you help? Or if you know how I can get my passport, please let me know. I have sent emails and called severally but all to no avail. It’s quite frustrating that in 2022 there’s no way to track the status of a Nigerian passport application in the UK 😖.
Lastly, I said I was going to update you on my therapy plans 🌝. I still didn’t pay for therapy this week 🙈, but I might. A friend used the service I’m considering and gave a good recommendation. So let’s see how it goes.
That’s all for this week, see you same time next Sunday. Thanks for reading.
Im so glad you are thriving. You finally got the camera… yaayy👏🏽👏🏽
The CP Community website that you've just created looks good. There's no visible sign that it was built by an amateur. Well done!
